Atlas: 5-day hiking itinerary in Toubkal The highest peak in Morocco, Mount Toubkal also offers superb hiking opportunities. Here is a small idea of a loop in 5-6 days with very varied landscapes, ascent included. Day 1: Imlil-Refuge des Mouflons (11kms, 1.5km of elevation gain) From Imlil, the road to Toubkal goes through Sidi Chamarouch. The climb is very regular and allows you to manage your effort well. Don't leave too late because this portion is well exposed to the sun. In 3 to 5 hours, you can reach the Mouflons refuge or pitch your tent a little higher. Before the ascent the next day. Day 3: Mouflons refuge-Lac d'Ifni (8.2kms, 500m of positive elevation, 1.4km of negative elevation) Once recovered from your ascent, head for the other side and Lake Ifni. 500m of elevation gain await you over approximately 2.5kms. A gentle awakening. Take a break at the top. Before descending in a zigzag for 5.5 km towards Lake Ifni. The descent is a bit technical but the scenery below and the night in a tent by the lake will greatly comfort your traumatized knees. Day 2: Climbing Mount Toubkal (3.2kms, 1km of elevation gain, then reverse path) The climb to Toubkal will test your legs and your breath. Very steep and regular, the ascent is nevertheless quite accessible. Provided you go at your own pace. If in doubt about the signage (it's simple, there isn't any), don't hesitate to call on a guide. Give yourself a chance to see the sunrise at the top by leaving around 4am! After enjoying the summit, it's time for the descent to the refuge. For a little afternoon rest. Moreover, it is possible to head for Lake Ifni without going down to the Mouflons refuge. But with this option, you will obviously have to carry your big bags and your tent during the ascent of Toubkal. So we opted for a round trip. Day 4: Lake Ifni-Tissaldai Quiet day. Don't leave too late to enjoy it. On the program, walk by the lake, switch to the valley of Aït Igrane and climb to Tissaldaï. At first rocky, the landscape then gives way to superb villages on the mountainside to finally lead to the foot of Mount Tarhbaloute. Along the way, watch out for the sign indicating Tissaldaï, located a little after Tisgouane. Otherwise you will descend towards Amsouzerte. Day 6: Sidi Chamarouch-Imlil (6kms, 650m of negative elevation) The return will be quiet. From Sidi Chamarouch, the descent to Imlil can take between 2 and 3 hours. It is then possible to be in Marrakech from the same afternoon by taking public transport. Before a well-deserved rest. This hike can be done in 5 days by combining days 1 and 2 or by combining days 2 and 3 (that's what we did). It is also possible to spend a week on this hike, for example spending a day at the edge of Lake Ifni. Or by adding a stage in the route of day 5, by making a detour via Tifni. Convenient Day 5: Tissaldai-Sidi Chamarouch Last height gain. On the program for this day, the ascent to Mount Tarhbaloute (about 3,800m). With, like every day since the beginning of this hike, a new decor. It is also the day of vigilance. Already because it's windy up there but also because you have to carefully scrutinize the panels. First, the first indication about 45 minutes-1 hour after Tissaldaï. It indicates Toubkal to the left, Tarhbaloute to the right. Go right to gain height. After about 2 hours, you will see the Toubkal in the distance and dominate the surroundings. Do not continue your road straight, unless you want to go down to Tifni. Instead, watch for the arrows painted on the heights on your left. Monte Tarhbaloute is located at the end of these arrows. If the entrance to this path is rather poorly indicated, the stones are subsequently well marked to facilitate the ascent. At the top, take a well-deserved lunch break. Because the day is not over. Once well recovered from this long climb, begin the descent to Sidi Chamarouch. Very technical, it requires a lot of attention. Especially after the efforts of the morning. Take your time. At the end of this long and beautiful descent, you can refuel. And spend one last night in a tent before returning. M'Goun: how to get to Aït Bouguemez? M'Goun: how to get to Aït Bouguemez?
How long to spend in Cappadocia? Well served but still far from everything, Cappadocia is a region of Turkey that is worth a little attention. To avoid being frustrated, we advise you to spend at least 3 days there. One or two days are enough. It's certain. Göreme Open Air Museum, Uchisar Citadel and a sunrise in an expensive hot air balloon. You have come to Cappadocia, that is undeniable. But a little bitter taste of haste could be waiting for you. Because this hyper-touristy region of Turkey is surely worth spending an extra day or two there. 4 days, the perfect timing The first two days should serve as a warm-up lap. History to find the balance between the visit of the underground cities, the hikes in the middle of the fairy chimneys and a sunset in a well thought out place. Once you have taken your bearings, you can then adjust your program. The options are endless. Add hiking in the endless valleys around Göreme, visit the Soganli valley and its churches hidden in the troglodyte decorations, treat yourself to an afternoon stroll in the villages of the region, Mustafapasa and Cemil for the closest , or push on to the Ihlara valley. So many reasons to justify spending 4 days in the region. What to do in Cappadocia? What to do in Cappadocia? What itinerary for a week on the Black Sea coast?
South Africa: why go in November? The question has a certain importance. For the climate, of course, but also for tourist numbers. When to go?! In South Africa, we got a little idea. The menu for this month of November is rather tempting. Sunshine in Kruger Park, blue skies on the Garden Route and the mildness of Cape Town. Inthree weeks in South Africa , the climate was a delight. All sublimated by the low presence of tourists.
How and where to cross the border South Africa - Lesotho To cross the border between South Africa and Lesotho, multiple options are available to you. On our side, we opted for an entry via Caledonspoort and an exit at Sephapos Gate. Entry will depend on your journey through South Africa and Lesotho. In our case, the plan was clear : leave Kruger Park to reach Semonkong, passing byGolden Gate National Park. The border crossing therefore had to be done at Caledonspoort. Arriving from Fouriesburg, park the car in front of the border post on the South African side. The passport is given, the stamp delivered, a simple formality. We then take the car for a few hundred meters, then the same procedure on the basotho side. On the way, we pay 10 rand (or loti, it's equivalent) per person at the border on the Lesotho side. If you can avoid leaving Lesotho through Sephapos Gate, do not hesitate ! Otherwise, you will then have dozens and dozens of kilometers of no man's land leading you to… not much. A little advice... A Basotho house crossed on the road to Katse Dam Don't forget the car rental papers ! After five wonderful days spent between the region of Leribe and Semonkong, we set off again for South Africa and the (anonymous) town of Cradock. So we head towards the border at Sephapos Gate. The exit of Lesotho is done without problem. On our return to South Africa, a slightly zealous agent carefully checks our papers… and especially the authorization to leave the territory issued by the rental agency for our vehicle. Everything is in order, towards the Garden Route ! Where to camp at Kruger Park? Where to camp at Kruger Park? Pourquoi partir en novembre ? Why go in November? Pourquoi la Wild Card vaut le coup ? - Bolivie : Comment aller à Torotoro ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
How to get to Torotoro To enjoy the superb landscapes of Torotoro National Park, you will necessarily have to go through Cochabamba. And then go to the starting point of the collectivos, not really nearby. The journey is quite short. Fifteen minutes, twenty at most. But it can be complicated, especially if Bolivians are reluctant to help you. From the Cochabamba bus terminal, you must first go to Avenida Barrientos to go down it in a southerly direction. A short kilometer further on, at the intersection with Avenida 6 de Agosto, take the “Valle grande” on your left. Cochabamba-Torotoro: 5h trip, 35 bolis Two intersections further, at Avenida República, you have arrived (maps.me will give you a hand on this one). The collectivos then wait to fill up before heading to Torotoro. The trip takes about 5 hours and costs 35 bolivianos. To make sure you get on a collectivo, plan to arrive at the intersection in the morning. When you leave Torotoro, same approach. The collectivos leave as soon as they are full. They are located at the top of the village, at the street level of the market and... the only wifi terminal in Torotoro. No way to get lost. Lake Titicaca: rather Peru or Bolivia? - Bolivie : comment aller à Sajama ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
How to get to Sajama To get to Sajama, you will necessarily have to stop at Patacamaya. Unless you come from Chile, and you like to walk. Sajama, when you come from Chile Another option remains possible. If you want to avoid a transfer, and save the price of a collectivo, you can take a bus from La Paz to Arica in Chile (the same transfer is possible in the other direction). Inform the driver of your intention to get off at Sajama. It will leave you about ten kilometers from the village. The rest will be hitchhiking or walking according to your desires. A single collectivo for the return To leave Sajama, get ahead. And be ready to run. A single collectivo leaves every morning at 6 a.m., in the direction of Patacamaya, for 30 bolis per person. But the number of passengers far exceeds the number of seats. So get ready to go on a Bolivian race: a bit every man for himself. But don't worry, they don't let anyone on the dock. Well, normally. In Patacamaya, collectivos or collective taxis (12 bolivianos) will then drop you off at El Alto. It is also possible to get to Oruro from Patacamaya. Sajama is (really) worth a visit. The journeys leading to this mountain village take quite a few shortcuts. Whether you come from La Paz or Oruro, you will have to stop at Patacamaya, halfway between the two cities. To do this, take a bus on the Oruro-La Paz line (or in the other direction) and clearly indicate to the driver your intention to get off at Patacamaya. Arrive before noon in Patacamaya Once left by the side of the road (maps.me is your best friend), you will have to join the main artery of the city to catch a collectivo in the direction of Sajama. Once full, it will get you there in about 3 hours, for 30 bolis per person. To avoid any possible collectivo misses, be sure to leave in the morning from La Paz or Oruro in order to be in Patacamaya before noon.
New Zealand: 7-Day South Island Itinerary We could have spent weeks and months on the South Island in New Zealand... but not our wallet. So if time (it's money) is limited, here is a short week of immersion in the South. Milford Sound in the early morning Once again, we were bound by time and the South Island is worth exploring in more days/weeks. But during our short stay, this route has already allowed us to take full view! The North has whetted our appetites! So we're off from Auckland, heading to Queenstown for a short week in the South of New Zealand. With 7 days to get a taste of these sublime mountains (the landing in Queenstown is magnificent). - Laos : que faire à Muang Ngoi ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
What to do in Muang Ngoi? A little further north of the Nam Ou than the popular Nong Khiaw, Muang Ngoi is the starting point for hikes in the middle of small villages and offers superb viewpoints. On the way to the local villages The path is well marked. Leave Muang Ngoi and its guesthouses at the edge of the water to venture into the neighborhood. 6 kilometers from the village, it is possible to reach the villages of Huay Sen, Huay Bo and Ban Na in a few hours. Some inhabitants offer lodging for the night (for a few tens of thousands of kips) but we only feel half at ease in the middle of the life of this village... We therefore simply stop there to rehydrate before to leave to admire the landscapes. FYI, to get to these villages, you have to pay a right of way (which also includes the entrance to a cave) of 10,000 kips per person. A short paddle to Nong Khiaw From a point of view, Nong Khiaw largely stands up to Muang Ngoi (and even surpasses it, according to the travelers you meet on the way... we are counting on you to verify this). So embark on a kayak available in Muang Ngoi to descend the Nam Ou at your own pace and tackle the viewpoints of Nong Khiaw. The Nam Ou seen from above Muang Ngoi is bordered by the Nam Ou River. And, if the magnificent karst landscapes and the rice fields crossed on the way to the neighboring villages are not enough for you, you can extend the pleasure with a small viewpoint. Although steep but accessible (for 10,000 kips too), the viewpoint Phanoi offers a pretty sight at sunset. Even plan some provisions for a short aperitif, it will end your walk of the day nicely. Point of arrival from or departure to Vietnam, Muang Ngoi does not have any distributor. If you have a few dollars to change into kips, don't be fooled by the exorbitant rates of traders on the bank. Go instead to the Gecko bar where the super nice manager will give you an (almost) real rate if you pay in dollars and a much better rate than his neighbors if you change. How and where to cross the border Bolivia - Peru Crossing the border between Bolivia and Peru is easy at Lake Titicaca. Don't even need backchich.
Which bank to choose for a world Tour ? To avoid bank charges and still have good insurance, we left with two different cards for our world tour. MasterCard Black at N26 The best solution to dodge fees. N26 offers a MasterCard Black (at the top insurance level) for €5.90 per month. This will be your only additional expense. Because on-site payments by credit card are made at the real rate and the bank does not charge you anything on withdrawals. The only fees may possibly come from the local bank you are making your withdrawal with. Visa Ultim at Boursorama Boursorama serves as our spare tire. But as sometimes some banks, agencies or businesses refuse MasterCard cards, we wanted to make sure we had an alternative. We therefore took Boursorama's Visa Ultim (conditionally but free and without account maintenance fees) to have the best insurance in all cases. It also allows you to benefit from total free payment on payments outside the euro zone and withdrawals made in foreign currencies.
