Where to camp in Kruger Park? To extend the discovery of animals in Kruger Park, South Africa, opt for camping in the smaller camps. An ideal mix between rest and immersion with the animals. The fence does not stop vibrating. Barely nightfall, at the stroke of six o'clock in the evening, the hyenas are active around the Maroela camp in Kruger Park, South Africa. On the lookout for leftover food and always on the lookout for the slightest gesture of a possible springbok. The ride will last all night long, intriguing and fascinating. A unique experience. Malelane and Maroela rather than Lower Sabie Between the hungry hyenas, the lost giraffes and the elephants come to nibble on a few bits of leaves, the smallest Kruger camps will leave you with unforgettable memories. We told it in detail in November 2017 dans the show Your clicks and your slaps, on Radio Campus Paris . The Malelane or Maroela campsites will thus have the advantage of immersing you in the middle of the bush. All well away from the lights and noise of major sites like Lower Sabie. Because some sometimes welcome several hundred visitors. Just that. Book these pitches in advance onKruger Park website , you will prolong the wonder of the day, lulled by the comings and goings of the animals ! A little advice... - Laos, 4 000 îles : pourquoi passer 3 jours à Don Som ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
Why spend 3 days in Don Som? To avoid the (too) well-known Don Det, Don Khong and Don Khon, Don Som is the perfect spot to spend three days on the 4,000 islands in southern Laos. The island extends over a little over 10 kilometers. And yet, unlike its neighbors Don Det and Don Khong, only one guesthouse has made its mark. Run by the Lao-Dutch couple, Tanoi and Sander, the Don Som Riverside Guesthouse borders the Mekong. And its hammocks are a great way to watch the sunrise over this peaceful island. In the middle of a Lao village Placed in your bungalow, you can easily engage in discussion with your hosts, super friendly and very good cooks. They love to share Lao culture and will advise you to take a tour of the island to meet the locals. Super welcoming and smiling, the latter could well invite you for a drink or two if they meet you on the way, between two happy “Sabaideee” of their children. Want to go to Don Det? Everything is possible The place is perfect for relaxation and the locals will make you want to enjoy it. But if you want to go to Don Det to take a look at the waterfalls and the dolphins on the Laos-Cambodia border, Tanoi and Sander rent bikes and scoots for the day... Just to be back in time for dinner at the edge of the Mekong! From Pakse, take a tuk tuk to the km8 terminal to the south. You will then find songthaew for 40,000 kips per person towards the 4,000 islands. You have to ask if the driver stops at the Ban Khinak market. From there you will have to walk 100m to a wooden bridge and then take a boat at 3,000 kips per person. By turning left at the exit of the boat, you will then find about 500m a sign indicating the guesthouse. For more info, Tanoi and Sander will answer you in detail via their Facebook page!
What to do in Ushuaia without breaking the bank? In Ushuaia, there are many activities: mountain hikes, boat trips or visits to glaciers. And you can get by at the “end of the world” without breaking the bank too much. The city looks funny. No real identity. In Ushuaia, colorful churches mingle with hotels, themselves wedged amid coastal homes and warehouses on the harbor. However, this “end of the world” is well worth a half-day stroll there, to soak up the atmosphere. Martial Glacier and Cerro del Medio As you walk through the city, you will come across the tourist office, at the water's edge. And you will discover that many hikes are accessible on foot from Ushuaia. The Martial glacier, of course, very popular with tourists (5-hour round trip hike with a nice drop), but also the Cerro del medio. After an hour and a half of climbing, you will dominate the city with a superb panorama. From the port, it is also possible to go on a boat trip to explore the surrounding islands (with birds, penguins, the lighthouse). It will then be necessary to pay a few hundred euros for the day. We skipped that option. Viewpoint from Laguna Turcasa On the menu, Cerro del medio, Martial glacier, lagunas esmeralda and turcsa. The only expense for all these hikes: 300 Argentine pesos for a collective taxi. Recap' On the way to Laguna esmeralda Laguna esmeralda and Laguna turca From Ushuaia, you can also take a shared taxi to the Laguna esmeralda trailhead. The hike is superb, you will come across beaver dams, and the apotheosis takes place at the edge of this lagoon, with its magnificent turquoise blue. The walk takes 2 to 3 hours round trip depending on your pace. After marveling at this hike, take to the skies. Returning to the road, descend towards Ushuaia for 1 kilometer then take the path on the left at the level of the sign “Laguna turcsa”. You then begin 1 kilometer of walking for 400m of elevation! The effort is well worth the show upstairs. Once up there, you have a view of all the surrounding mountains and even make out the Laguna esmeralda which will then seem much smaller to you. Other economic activities In one day it is possible to combine the two lagoons. We didn't have time but you can also devote a day to the Laguna belgica or the Vinciguerra glacier. The only cost here will also be transportation. Another activity also, the Tierra del fuego park, but we opted not to do it for its price and because no one really recommended it to us.
How to get from Bangkok to Pakse After our landing in Thailand, we go from Bangkok to Paksé to reach Laos. From Chatuchak station, north of Bangkok, the 12-13 hour journey cost us 900 baht. A few days in Bangkok and off we went to Laos. But first, you have to find the bus ticket. It takes place at Chatuchak station, north of Bangkok. From the center of the city, insist with your taxi driver (even if it means showing him our photo). You go to Chatuchak station...not Mo Chit station or Chatuchak market but to Chatuchak STATION. We barely add more. Departure 7:00 p.m. from Bangkok As a precaution, we took our ticket a little in advance, but you can perhaps try to go there the same day to avoid two round trips to the station. Once there, you go to counter 22, the only one indicating the destination of Pakse, and you pay 900 baht per person for the trip. It will therefore be a departure at 7 p.m. from Bangkok and an arrival around 7:30 a.m. in Pakse, with a quiet border crossing . The perfect time to head straight toDon Som, on the 4000 islands !
Since filming a movie scene like " Dirty Dancing " in the mountain, Tilicho Lake has become a popular destination for Nepalese tourists. Only one solution: it is therefore necessary to arrive early at the Base camp. Before reaching Tilicho High Camp, most hikers start from Manang or Braka (link to our itinerary). Another alternative is to sleep one night in Yak Kharka, between Manang and Tilicho High Camp. This will allow you to get up there a little earlier. For a few years and the shooting of a famous film sequence, many Nepalese tourists have been investing in the place, in addition to the already very many foreign tourists. Accommodation on site is not enough to house everyone. Result: some of the tourists have to sleep on the ground, on blankets, in the common rooms quickly transformed into dormitories after the meal. Has your guide booked? Well...it's useless! By arriving early in the morning, you can try to book a room with real beds. Just to have a good night's sleep before the ascent to the lake, at 5,000m. Some groups of tourists move forward serenely since their guide has guaranteed them a room. Unfortunately, the local law is: first come, first served. Reservations are irrelevant. So choose to arrive as soon as possible! To avoid MAM (acute mountain sickness), we advise you to talk a lot with your co-hikers. Do not hesitate, in case of fatigue, shortness of breath, headache, to warn your companions that you would like to slow down. It is necessary to watch out for the warning signs as much as possible in order not to suffer from MAM and to make the most of the hike. Everyone reacts differently depending on the altitude and every hiker can suffer from MAM, even if it has never happened to them. We therefore advise you to stay hydrated, to avoid sweating, to avoid being out of breath (this means that you are managing your effort well) and, once again, not to hesitate to warn other people at the slightest doubt. How and where to cross the border Chile - Argentina On the way to Ushuaia, we crossed the Chile-Argentina border at San Sebastian. A simple formality. After Torres del Paine, the next stop will be in Ushuaia. So we embark with the Bus Sur company for a 10-11 hour journey from Punta Arenas to the famous “fin del mundo”. With this company, the transfer is necessarily done during the day and, to our knowledge, none makes the trip at night. Keep an eye out for the outskirts of Ushuaia After 4 hours on the road and a short passage by ferry, we arrive at the San Sebastian border post. The approach is done in express, the two stamps are quickly affixed and you can calmly get back on the bus. To extend the route and then take advantage of the last two hours of magnificent travel on the outskirts of Ushuaia. On the way back, same company and same speed when crossing the border. How and where to cross the Thailand-Laos border In transit from Bangkok to Pakse, we crossed the border at Chong Mek (Thailand) and Vang Tao (Laos). With the possibility of making the “on arrival” visa on the Laos side. If you see this building, you are on the right track. It's 6 o'clock in the morning. The immigration office in Chong Mek opens. In less than five minutes, we line up, give our “departure form” to an agent posted behind his window and then have our passport stamped to leave Thailand. He shows us the way to the Laotian immigration office. The “on arrival” visa costs $31 Before getting there, you have to go through an underground tunnel of a few tens of meters (who knows why) then go about 100 meters further, to the immigration office. We fill out the “arrival form”, give $31 ($30 for the visa, 10,000 kips since the agents are on staggered schedules) and we wait quietly. Ten minutes later, we leave for Paksé visa in hand! - Pérou : pourquoi aller au Choquequirao ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
Why go to Choquequirao? In the shadow of Machu Picchu, the Choquequirao nevertheless has many advantages to one day compete with its mythical cousin. Between authenticity and economy for the wallet. They stand in the middle of the clouds. At 3000m, intact, the ruins of Choquequirao reveal a piece of Inca history. All around, the summits are competing to go as high as possible. Below, the Apurimac river tries to make its way between the mountains. During this time, the tourist finds himself lost. Amazed by this magical setting. Alone in the world The impression is enjoyable. In this mystical setting, you are alone (or, at worst, you come across 4 or 5 other hikers). Alone with this mysterious Inca city, whose exact function we still do not know. Between the upper part and the lower part of the site, take your time. Either way, no one is going to rush you. You are alone. Very far from the hustle and bustle of a well-known neighboring Inca city. Isolated, but not for long... The mood could change. Much less popular with tourists than Machu Picchu, Choquequirao is nevertheless in the sights of the Peruvian government. The former president Kuczynski had even scouted there for a cable car project. The goal ? Increase the number of visitors from a few thousand per year to several hundred thousand. Quick, it's time to go! The calves will be well rewarded The walk could be discouraging. With its very high slopes, the “Choque” is indeed frightening. Ultimately, this trek is worth doing precisely because it challenges its trekkers. Above all, the Inca city found at the top and the panorama then offered to the eyes of the tourist largely reward this walk. Relief mixed with amazement. The correct operation of the wallet Prices have been rising lately... But nothing to panic about! Entry to Choquequirao still costs 60 soles (about 15 euros). Much less than the 150 you have to pay to enter Machu Picchu. The wallet will therefore quickly choose its side. - Rajasthan : que faire à Bundi ? | Douzeregardsdumonde
What to do in Bundi? Not very popular stage in Rajasthan, Bundi has many beauties to discover. On the program, an abandoned fort, magnificent reservoirs and a bit of chill on the terrace. Nagar Sagar Kund, in the middle of town Cenotaph, lake and reservoirs The old town serves as a peaceful retreat.away from the noise , in the middle of the cows, laughing to the rhythm of the monkey races on the roofs. However, a small tour in the new city offers other discoveries. A combo ticket (500 rupees in October 2018) includes entrance to Rani Ji Ki Baori Reservoir and its impressive gate, Kipling's Palace by Jait Sagar Lake, and the 84-pillar cenotaph. On the way, the twin wells of Nagar Sagar Kund (free) constitute a very nice stop even if the waste spoils the beauty of the place. Rooftops, sunsets and reggae Light is its best asset. At sunset, the roofs of Bundi reflect their most beautiful brilliance. And it's time to taste thalis, aloo gobi or sweet lassis. To enjoy it, the city offers many rooftops on which to spend a few hours in the evening. According to our totally subjective experience, the superb welcome of the Guddu family, at the Guddu Palace, and their reggae playlist are number one for chill evenings in Bundi. Plan wide for the palate It overlooks the city. From some high windows, the view over the blue roofs of Bundi is splendid. Even more at sunset. The old Bundi Palace, unoccupied and not really maintained, strikes with its raw beauty. Upon entering through the huge door, the visitor is immersed in an atmosphere combining nature and history. And the walk can last for hours getting lost in the halls of the palace. Don't miss the abandoned tanks The discoveries continue higher. In the Chitrasala mural gallery first. Then in the strong Taragarh. Abandoned, these ruins leave room for the imagination. Wandering among the crumbling walls, gain height for a panorama of the magnificent Bundi. Above all, push your visit to the water reservoirs. In the middle of the trees, the well is completely natural. Savage. The contrast is striking with those located in the city, filled with waste. View of Bundi Palace from Taragarh Fort Can we enter Chitrasala for free? The subject irritates everyone. In Bundi, two versions oppose each other. In the center, the Chitrasala. A pretty gallery of turquoise murals bordered by a garden. The place is public. And free. Well, it's not that simple. Because the monument is wedged between the palace of Bundi and the strong Taragarh, deprived. And paying. Former properties of the Maharaja, these two buildings were open to the public until his death. But his nephew, the only heir, decided to charge admission... even to the inhabitants of Bundi. No more cricket games on the fort for the local kids. And hello confusion. Because today, a sign posted at the entrance to Bundi Palace reads “ Chitrasala, free entry ”. Certainly, but as you must first enter the palace, it is impossible to avoid payment. So you can then enter the Chitrasala for free. But only after paying. You understood ?
